The book The Crucibles by Arthur Miller is a book that talks about the Salem witch trails, this story is in the small town of Salem, Massachusetts. The book makes a description of the Puritan society and shows how some men and women were hanging and other people faced accusations of witchcraft. The author wrote the book based on historical events but it also represents the early Cold War since the McCarthy era were similar to “witch hunts” and many people were accused of being communists; communists and disciples of Satan were the same thing.
John Proctor is the main character in the story; he is a farmer who is loyal to justice and moral principles of his time. He is considered a tragic hero since he had to accuse Abigail no matter his affairs with her. In that part of the story he was seen as a moral man who is respected, honorable and ethical but he is also too smart that could detect irrationality in a simple way. He exposed his life although he lost his good name and reputation since his only idea was that everybody knew the truth.
